– We see that the most popular departures are now filled to a greater extent by holiday and leisure travellers. The consequence is that business and patient travel may have challenges finding tickets for these departures close to departure, says communications advisor Lina Lindegaard Carlsen in Widerøe to Brønnøysund’s Newspaper.
The government has doubled the state support for the so-called FOT routes to the districts, and during the year the maximum prices will be halved.
Widerøe has won the state tender for most of the routes. Now they are proposing changes.
– It remains to be seen how it will actually turn out, but if it becomes difficult to get people who need it, we believe that other price models will work better, says Carlsen.
In concrete terms, the company proposes a similar model to that in Spain, where residents of the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands, among other things, get a discount on flights to and from the mainland.
– This means that everyone with a residence permit in a defined geographical area is entitled to a discount, says Carlsen.
Brønnøysunds Avis has asked State Secretary Bent-Joacim Bentzen (Sp) in the Ministry of Transport for a comment on the proposal, but he does not answer directly.
– Towards the next round of tenders, we will consider how to ensure the best possible offer for the sum we spend, he says.
