Wide recovery in health care capacity of IMSS BC in 2022

BAJA CALIFORNIA.- The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Baja California focused its efforts during 2022 on the normalization of services that were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing its operational capacity, to improve the quality of care for an affiliated population close to 2.5 million beneficiaries.

In this sense, the head of the IMSS in Baja California, Dr. Desirée Sagarnaga Durante, highlighted the participation in 20 Days of continuity of services “With the eagle well on”, in which they carried out until November 18,412 Specialty medical consultations and 938 surgical procedures, which allowed progress in the purpose of reducing surgical deferral and appointments to specialists.

He explained that in the daily operation of the Institute, 46,188 surgeries were performed from January to November, the main specialties being: Gynecology and Obstetrics; Traumatology and orthopedics; Ophthalmology, Pediatric Surgery, Cardiology, Otolaryngology, Angiology and Vascular Surgery and Oncology, among others.

Through 33 Family Medicine Units (UMF) and eight hospitals in Baja California and San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, 2,799,000 Family Medicine and 562,846 Specialty consultations were granted in the period from January to November.

Likewise, 951 thousand 608 health cares were provided through the PREVENIMSS program; 657 thousand 687 emergency care; 188 thousand 747 dental consultations; 957 thousand 101 people were treated in laboratory services and 361 thousand 507 in X-rays and 14 thousand 384 boys and girls were born alive in the IMSS during the same period, while 16 thousand 177 people voluntarily accepted family planning methods.

It is worth mentioning that Código Infarto works at the Regional General Hospital (HGR) No. 1, which is the referral center for patients from Tijuana, Rosarito, Tecate and Ensenada.

Finally, efforts are currently being made to increase the hospital infrastructure in the region, and the head of the IMSS in Baja California stated that in the coming weeks a new Linear Accelerator for radiotherapy care for patients will be put into service at HGR No. 20 oncology as well as new MRI equipment at HGR No. 1.
