Wi-Fi 6E in the Apple iPhone 15?

Will the iPhone 15 feature a new gap connectivity technology? Recent rumors relayed by Macrumors suggest that the next line of iPhones might adopt Wi-Fi 6E.

The home wifi chip on hiatus?

A research note shared this week by analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O’Malley of UK bank Barclays reveals Apple’s plans. The latest wifi standard should thus be supported by the iPhone 15, even if no details on the models concerned (iPhone 15 classic? Pro?) have leaked. An information confirmed secondly by TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

According to the expert, Apple has temporarily suspended the development of its wifi and Bluetooth compatible home chip. “Apple has devoted most of its IC design resources to processor development. Visibility of Apple’s Wi-Fi chip development is even lower than that of its 5G chip“, estimates the specialist who counts on the continuation of the partnership with Broadcom for Wi-Fi 6E.

Wi-Fi 6E, faster and more reliable

As a reminder, Wi-Fi 6E is already in place on the last two iPad Pros, the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and the new Mac Mini. Even more efficient than 5 GHz, Wi-Fi 6 Enhanced uses wider communication channels (up to 160 MHz). The data can thus transit in greater quantity and more quickly. The maximum theoretical throughput of techno is close to 11 Gb/s, for a latency of less than a millisecond. An ideal technical evolution for the growth of bandwidth-intensive streaming services.

At the same time, Wi-Fi 6E uses the less congested 6 GHz frequency (as its name suggests). Only a few microwave links use the same band in France. This new range makes it possible to avoid interference and to limit the loss of communication packets. Ideal for playing online without lag connection. It would still be necessary to have, at the exit of the iPhone 15, a compatible internet box.
