If your only desire at the end of the day is to take off your shoes, then you may be developing varicose veins.

Why are the legs on fire?

People who work in the office, school or medical facilities are forced to change their shoes at work. And there is a point in this. After all, spending several hours on your feet is more pleasant and useful, being in comfortable comfortable shoes. But even these specialists sometimes have the feeling that at the end of the working day, the feet and heels hurt a lot. Why is this happening, said the orthopedic doctor Anatoly Krupnov.

In his opinion, there may be several reasons – from uncomfortable shoes to an exacerbation of allergies (for example, to the materials from which socks, tights, shoes, or even flooring are made).

“However, much more often, as a practicing doctor, I have to deal with serious diseases of the veins and blood vessels: thrombophlebitis, varicose veins, endarteritis, autonomic dysfunction and other types of atherosclerosis,” says the expert.

What is there to be afraid of?

According to the orthopedist, the most dangerous diseases from which the heels hurt are two:

  • Varicose veins This is a pathological expansion of the saphenous veins in the legs. It is accompanied by valve failure and impaired blood flow. Varicose veins can develop both due to a long stay on the legs, and due to changes in the hormonal background. It is all the more important to detect the disease in time and start treating it.

  • Gout. This disease occurs when the metabolism of uric acid is disturbed. This is a metabolic disorder, manifested by the accumulation of uric acid in the body and the formation of deposits (urates) of this substance in the joints and kidneys. According to the doctor, gout is most often first diagnosed in men in their 40s and 50s, and in women after 60.

What to do?

Pain in the feet can occur against the background of problems with the musculoskeletal system. The expert advises to immediately sign up for a consultation with an orthopedist and, if necessary, ultrasound of the veins. Further treatment will depend on the results of these two actions.
