(CNN) The Kansas State Wildlife and Parks Authority is urging people not to use firearms to catch fish.
Officials in Finney County, Kansas, said in a Facebook post that they had seized a 9mm handgun believed to have been used to catch the fish.
The offenses are “illegal means of catching fish” and “non-possession of a permit”. “Firearms are not a legal means of catching fish,” he warned in Kansas.
In Kansas, firearms cannot be used to catch fish, but bows and arrows and crossbows are legal.
Officials warn that fishing with firearms is not only illegal, but that shooting fish is dangerous. Firing into water is dangerous because bullets can bounce off the surface, officials said.
Kansas residents between the ages of 16 and 74 need a permit to fish legally in the state.
