Why you shouldn’t play the Switch in a heat wave

In case of hot weather, Nintendo advises against using its Switch console.

Three weeks ago, Belgium broke heat records. And that is likely to continue this summer. Like humans, electronic devices must protect themselves from these waves of hot air. Thus the Japanese giant Nintendo alerts its users about the thermostat’s potential dangers to their Switch. It recommends an environment between 5 and 35 degrees for safe use of the console.

On Twitter, we can read “please use it [la Switch] in a place where the temperature is between 5 and 35°C”. For fans of television mode, the company advises them to install the Nintendo Switch docking station in a cool place, or one that does not retain heat. “For your safety, do not disassemble the main unit”Nintendo has turned off.

Also, it is recommended to remove any dust that may accumulate on the air inlet and outlet of the main unit. Because, in fact, in the event of blockage of the intake and exhaust ports, “the main unit temperature may rise”. This hole allows ventilation of the system. Thus, in case of foreign bodies or dust, it is best to remove them using a vacuum cleaner. Nintendo specifies that, for safety, if the temperature of the main unit becomes too high, then it will automatically go to sleep to protect itself. Note, however, that the ideal remains to find a way to improve air circulation.

It should be noted that in addition to the Switch, it is obviously not recommended to play on your Xbox Series, PS5 or on your PC by more than 35 degrees, for long periods of time.
