Mondelez, which produces Toblerone chocolate, will change the packaging design to comply with Swiss legislation. This establishes that national symbols, such as the Matterhorn, can only appear on packaging under certain conditions. Thus, the product must contain at least 80% raw materials from Switzerland. For dairy products, it is even 100%. The bulk of the production must also take place in the Alpine country.
However, Mondelez will relocate part of the production in July to Bratislava, Slovakia. This means that the food giant will no longer be able to use the Matterhorn. The caption “from Switzerland” will also disappear. The packaging will now feature a mountain logo “more modern and refined”according to a Mondelez spokesperson.
