Why Trusting Companies Can Hurt: The Dangers of Blind Loyalty and the Need for Awareness

Loving the company is not a bad thing, but…

“With Yakuza” “This person doesn’t seem to have friends” “Reading makes me angry”
“Why don’t you try a hit shop?” “This article is a fiction”

As much as possible, I try to react to comments (Yahoo News, Twitter (now X), etc.) on articles I write. However, there are many opportunities to see such criticism, and it is slightly hurt.

In an article I wrote in July, said, “This article is a myth” and “I didn’t sue.” Quit at once,” was seen here and there.

Regarding the former, since the amount of money earned is large, it is not convincing, but it is understandable. However, as for the latter, I feel that there is not only a jealous feeling regarding getting a large amount of money, but also the problem of “too much trust in the company” peculiar to Japanese people.

I’m not saying that it’s bad to look up to the company like a parent. However, by placing too much trust in the company, there is a high possibility that it will destabilize one’s own life.

Three reasons why Japanese people trust companies

For example, one of the privileges of a company employee is seniority and lifetime employment, but in Japanese society where the declining birthrate and population are progressing, and the large number of elderly people are putting pressure on the scarce younger generation, it will be difficult to maintain seniority in the future. . Regarding lifetime employment, as I proved, the hurdle for dismissal is high, so it is still alive and well, but we have to stand on the difficult premise that the company will continue to exist forever.

Despite the fact that employment practices are becoming dysfunctional, why do so many Japanese still not lose their trust in their companies? I believe there are three major problems.

・The problem of peer pressure
・Educational issues
・Insufficient information regarding fighting companies

First of all, I want you to imagine why there are many people who work with patience even in black workplaces. The answers that come to mind for everyone are “for money” and “to avoid being disadvantaged in job-hunting”, but these reasons are probably superficial.

Stanford University professor Jeffrey Pfeffer wrote:black workplace kills you(Nihon Keizai Shimbun Publishing), it is pointed out that people who cannot quit even in a bad workplace have a pride problem.
