“Why this couple sold their luxurious $25 million house and stayed down-to-earth | The story of Bas-Saint-Laurent’s jackpot winners”

A couple from Bas-Saint-Laurent who won the jackpot bought a house so big and luxurious that they finally chose to sell it, in particular because their guests were not comfortable staying there.

“We thought it was too big, says Sylvie Boily, who won $25 million with her spouse Rénald Dumont in December 2014. People told us: “Ah! We prefer to go to the chalet. We are more comfortable.”

Not to mention that cleaning all these rooms took too much of his time and energy. “Because I don’t have a cleaning lady. I don’t hire anyone and I do everything myself,” says M.me Boilly.

At the same time, the couple of millionaires has acquired a “big chalet on the edge of the water”, which they make sure to renovate “without flafla”.

“It’s not high-end, because people are more comfortable coming to places that aren’t fancy,” she says.

Spoil mom

Mme Boily regrets not having been able to spoil his mother more with his millions, the latter having died of an illness shortly following the win.

“I might not spoil her as I would have liked, following all that she has done for us”, says the one who assures that she is still part of the “well ordinary world”.

“My grandparents had a farm, my mother raised five children on her own. We were used to just arriving. My mother was not rich, she earned low wages,” she recalls.

Mme Boily was at least able to spoil his three children, and his spouse did the same with his offspring. What she prefers, however, is to surprise her loved ones with spontaneous gifts.

“I like to make surprises. Do you need a TV? I’m coming over and I’ve bought you a TV and you’re gonna be fine for a long time. We spoiled a lot of people, ”she rejoices.

“Even before I won, I wasn’t rich rich, but I was spoiling my world around me. The treats are just bigger, that’s all!”

stay down to earth

Despite the millions in the bank, Mme Boily claims to have “remained down to earth” and to have kept the same friends as in her life before.

“Everyone tells us: ‘you are as you were before’. They tell me that I haven’t changed and indeed, I am very ordinary, I am sociable and I chat with everyone, ”says the resident of Bas-Saint-Laurent.

“We were happy the same before [de gagner]. It gives a good boost, but without getting upset with it, ”says the one who lives mainly on the interest that her investments bring her.

The couple admits having had to “tamp down” a few friends who “ambitioned”, but the main ones remained in their lives, which she “wouldn’t change for anything in the world”.

“We don’t hang out with people who have money because we have it.”

trips to the south

The couple have multiplied trips to the sun since becoming a millionaire, but they are “always small trips, without too much exaggeration”.

“We like going with a couple or a small gang. We make a lot of people happy and we have fun together. We brought a lot of people with us to let them know that, the South, ”says the one who worked as a cook in a residence for the elderly, until she became a millionaire.

Mme Boily also cruised in Italy, but she “didn’t trip that much.”

“I prefer a small all-inclusive. As long as we are in the South and we are well.
