Why the two mini nuclear start-ups Naarea and Newcleo decide to collaborate

This is unheard of. While the race for mini-nuclear reactors rages around the world, with the Chinese and Russians ahead of the Americans, two European start-ups – the French Naarea and the Italian-British Newcleo – announce a strategic and industrial partnership . Better still, they are calling on other European start-ups developing fourth-generation micro or mini fast neutron reactors to join them.

They have, so to speak, no real choice. To meet their schedule and commission a first reactor in 2030, and top EDF Nuward’s SMR project planned for 2035, they must have the design of their advanced modular reactor, or AMR, certified by the safety authorities of the countries where they intend to install them, starting with France.
