Why the police need their apprentices

Nothing works without social media when it comes to young police officers. Young people find out regarding apprenticeships via Instagram.

They work for the police, but they don’t wear uniforms and aren’t armed either: Theresa Burger, Emini Albonit, Manuel Pühringer and Kai Viehhauser study and work in the Salzburg State Police Headquarters (LPD). What makes you different from other apprentices? The four smile at this question. They are all on different rungs of the career ladder that the Salzburg State Police Headquarters offers for young people. They are all assistants to security administration. This is the name of the apprenticeship that can be taken up here. Behind this term hides a whole range of directions in which girls and boys can develop, from personal agendas to logistics. But first things first.

Theresa Burger works in the human resources department. Every day, the parish thrower is fully committed to expanding her field of work and her know-how. About the opportunities to develop, she says: “My skills are encouraged here, I really appreciate that.” Emini Albonit from Puch takes the same line. The young man has already completed his apprenticeship – with a high school diploma. Now he’s going one better and studying business administration. At the same time he continues to work in the LPD. “Many are not even aware that you can do an apprenticeship here. The police are a great employer. Compared to the private sector, we have a secure job with different training and funding opportunities. There is also a good work-life balance. Thanks to them I can do my studies.”

Acceptance rate: 100 percent

The LPD Salzburg is an organization with around 2000 employees throughout the state. Most of them work in the executive branch, around 150 in administration. There are currently ten apprentices, six women and four men. The search for new apprentices recently went online, including on social networks such as Instagram. Of course, the police also want to approach candidates where they are anyway. There were six positions to be filled. The next chance will come in less than a year.
