Why the Moulin Rouge woke up without blades for the first time in 135 years – 2024-04-25 15:36:35

The block blades fell shortly before 2 o’clock and, fortunately, no one was injured because there were few people on the street and because the last cabaret show had ended just half an hour before the events occurred.

The firefighters arrived around 2:45 a.m. and established a security perimeter around the building, in anticipation of the possible fall of more elements or materials.

Early this morning, Montmartre woke up shocked by an atypical Moulin Rouge whose detached remains, among which are also the letters ‘M’, ‘O’ and ‘U’ from the illuminated sign, had already been completely collected on the 9:45 a.m.

The faces of the dozens of tourists who usually gather on Clichy Boulevard to take photos of this icon of the ‘Belle époque’ (1871-1914) reflected sadness this Thursday, although others, such as a Spanish couple who returned this morning to Seeing the damage, they were glad to have been able to take a snapshot of the facade in its original state just last night.

The incident will not cause alterations in the programming, which, with tonight’s shows, plans to host 1,700 spectators.

It is the first time that an event of this nature has occurred in what was a reference point for personalities such as Elvis Presley, Charles Trenet, Charles Aznavour, Line Renaud and Jean Marc Thibault.

Since its inauguration, the only serious accident so far recorded had been a fire caused by construction in 1915, which led to its closure for nine years.

The Moulin Rouge receives, according to the management, more than 500 thousand visitors each year and is one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the French capital.
