Why the energy transition does not come at a cheap electricity tariff

But that’s not the case at the moment, is it? At least you were still talking regarding a loss-making business yourself in January.
Yes, at the moment this development is having a negative impact on our earnings. This is not surprising either: the situation on the energy market is currently more tense than ever. Although there have always been movements in the markets in the past, there was a corridor to be estimated in which gas or electricity prices developed. It’s different this time. All of a sudden, prices went up massively – both for short-term purchases and on the futures markets for the coming years. We had to make purchases on the market in December under the current conditions. That is a purchase price that you cannot refinance through the basic service tariff that you charge. We are currently procuring quantities for 2023 and 2024. And you can no longer get them at the prices of a year ago. We will therefore inevitably have to adjust our prices – maybe even in 2022. However, our basic service customers will remain on one tariff.
