From January 1, for French people who declare more than 25,000 euros of income per year, the ecological bonus decreases for electric cars, going from 5,000 to 4,000 euros. This is explained in particular by the implementation of social leasing, estimated at 250 million euros.

On January 1, the ecological bonus drops for electric cars, going from 5,000 to 4,000 euros, but only for the wealthiest buyers. The time has therefore come for the government to save money, even on ecology.

The responsibility of social leasing

It will be 1,000 euros less if you are one of the French people who declare more than 25,000 euros of income per year. A decline which will not concern the other half of the most modest households with still a bonus of 7,000 euros for the purchase of a 100% electric car. Purchases which represented 17% of sales of new vehicles registered this year, a little more than the government forecast. As a result, the overall envelope planned for this aid was exceeded by 400 million euros.

And if you add to that the 250 million euros estimated for the implementation of the social leasing which will allow, in 2024, 20,000 motorists to access electricity for less than 100 euros per month, you obtain the two main reasons for this reduction in a bonus which is in any case restricted, since it will not be only compatible with 40% of cars on the market. This was double before the entry into force of the new environmental criteria on December 15. The reduction in subsidies is an underlying trend which should not call into question the rise of 100% electric, expected to exceed 20% market share next year.
