Are you also active in sports during the holidays or do you prefer to enjoy the sun in peace and quiet? The fact is that a sporty break does not harm our hard-trained body. On the contrary: We don’t lose our muscles overnight.
After a week you notice that the muscle tone decreases a bit. We quickly build this up once more following the holidays following a few training sessions.
That’s why it’s totally okay to take a break for two weeks at a time. After all, not only our mind, but also our body needs some rest from everyday life.
Those who need to know are competitive athletes: They, too, take advantage of reduced activity to improve their performance. Because without regeneration phases, the training success will not be achieved in the long term. Not convinced yet? These 3 reasons are reason enough to take a break:
No sport on holiday: relaxation is important
Regeneration between workouts is at least as important as the sport itself. Usually it falls short. If you take a little longer break on vacation, you prevent injuries in the long term.
Why? The time out gives the working muscles and tendons the opportunity to regenerate optimally and to prepare for future training. In this way we prevent the risk of injury.
Less stress is good for your figure
During a sporty break – which relaxes the body instead of stressing it in the long term – the cortisol level in our organism decreases. The body’s own hormone is increasingly released during ongoing stress and, in excess, ensures that we are more hungry. At the same time, it slows down fat loss.
By the way: A lot of sleep can also help to reduce stress. So instead of putting on a party marathon during the holidays, we should rather hit our ears more often and for a long time.
More time to fill up on vitamin D
Instead of going straight to the nearest (hotel) gym, we should do something good for our body and, depending on the destination, just soak up the sun – and for free. By lying lazily in the sun – well protected, of course – we not only replenish our vitamin D stores, but also contribute to better health.
The vitamin boosts the calcium metabolism and thereby strengthens our bones, which we need for the next training session – following the holidays! – to get started.
