Why Sheikh Rasheed’s nomination papers were rejected? The written decision came

The appeal against the rejection of the nomination papers of former Federal Minister and Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed from NA-56 Constituency of Rawalpindi has been set for hearing.

Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf heard the appeal of Sheikh Rashid in the Election Appellate Tribunal of Lahore High Court Rawalpindi, Sardar Abdul Raziq Advocate appeared on behalf of Sheikh Rashid.

During the hearing, Sardar Abdul Raziq Advocate said that Sheikh Rasheed is accused of owing the money of Forest Rest House Murree even though he never stayed in this rest house, the nomination papers were rejected by creating fake bills.

He further told the court that the second allegation is that he did not declare the property, this allegation is also baseless, a fake person was created by tampering with the revenue records.

Meanwhile, the court accepted the appeal for regular hearing and issued a notice for January 4.

It should be noted that yesterday (January 1) a written decision was issued to reject the nomination papers of Awami Muslim League chief and former federal minister Sheikh Rasheed from NA-56.

The written decision was issued by Constituency NA-56 Returning Officer Nazrah Shah, in which it was stated that Sheikh Rasheed’s nomination papers are rejected if the objections raised against them are found to be valid.

In the verdict, it was said that Sheikh Rasheed has been found guilty of land fraud, defaulter, false statement in income tax returns.

The written judgment held that therefore Section 62 (9)(c) of the Election Act, 2017 was violated, in view of the facts the candidate did not qualify as a valid nominee.

According to the verdict, Sheikh Rasheed failed to provide details about his assets and liabilities in Form-B of the nomination papers.

The written judgment further stated that the candidate has also failed to comply with para (U) of the affidavit submitted along with the nomination papers, the candidate has also failed to pay the rest house charges.

Later today, Minister Sheikh Rasheed filed an appeal against rejection of nomination papers from Constituency NA-56 of Rawalpindi.
