Recently, the cost of gasoline in Russia has increased significantly. In this regard, many drivers decide to switch to more affordable fuel, such as AI-92, instead of the expensive AI-95, trying to save money. Experts from the njcar.ru portal explained the reasons why you should not trust common myths associated with the use of AI-92 and AI-95 fuels.
One of the myths that experts have noticed is the octane number of fuel. It should be understood that the octane number and grade of fuel (AI-92, AI-95, and even AI-80) are not related to the quality of gasoline. For example, AI-92 gasoline may be high quality, but not suitable for engines with a high compression ratio.
Another common misconception is the statement that the use of special gasolines (for example, G-Drive, ECTO or Pulsar) containing detergent additives can damage the car.
Additional components of such fuel are able to clean injectors and remove carbon deposits from the combustion chamber without harming the engine and other systems.
The third misconception is that automakers only recommend using higher octane fuel because it costs more.
In fact, with the gradual withdrawal of the popular AI-92 fuel from the world market, manufacturers are focusing on more common types of fuel, as is done in developed countries. For example, in the European Union AI-92 is no longer offered.
It is important to note that large automakers in Russia configure the engine control units of their cars so that they function with low octane gasoline, such as AI-92. However, if the car’s owner’s manual recommends using AI-95, it is better to stick to this fuel.
