“Of course I had hoped to be able to compete in giant slalom once more this season, but we ran out of time to make enough progress to be ready to race on Sunday,” explained Shiffrin, who won the slalom in Åre last Sunday had secured the crystal ball for the special classification. She had previously been sidelined for more than a month to deal with knee and ankle injuries.
