At the Borissovo cemetery, mourning for Alexei Navalnyj is mixed with hope that his fight for a “happy Russia” will continue. Our author asked visitors.

AOn Alexei Navalnyj’s grave lie flowers of mourning, carnations and chrysanthemums, next to tulips as heralds of spring. There are so many of them that the wooden cross just behind the entrance to the Borissovo Cemetery in the southeast of Moscow has almost disappeared under the head-high mountain. Next to it, an additional platform is already overflowing with flowers.

Anyone who talks to the people who constantly come to the grave feels their sadness, but also their hope, their hesitation, but also their determination, sees them cry, but also smiles. It is frosty and snow is still piling up over other graves, but the sky is blue and the sun hints at spring. A crow caws from a lantern, a titmouse chirps from a birch tree.
