Publisher CD Projekt has announced that the scope of its long-awaited sequel Project Sirius would be “reassessed”.
Official publications of this kind are rarely intended to address players, but rather to shareholders to explain the status of the various projects in progress, and especially the investments necessary for their proper conduct. If we already knew that The Witcher 4 would be particularly ambitious, especially with the use of the latest Unreal Engine 5, but also combined single and multiplayer experiences, the project led by The Molasses Flood studio has incurred heavy expenses without having really advanced. According to the report published by CD Projekt, 7 million euros had been used to lay the foundation, which might be erased by a study to ensure that the game would be faithful to the concept and the commercial potential necessary.
A hell of an extension
Two million additional euros: it is the tidy sum committed to carry out this new stage, imposed on the development by the editor. CD Projekt had already warned, the construction site of this expected sequel would be longer than usual, serving among other things for the implementation of new tools which would be amortized by future games to come. But in “off”, we also know that the publisher will be keen to avoid two major pitfalls for which it has been widely blamed: a difficult crunch policy for its employees and the catastrophic exit of Cyberpunk 2077 with many disappointments.
The Weeping Witcher
This bad news comes to overwhelm fans of the license a little more The Witcher, who definitely didn’t need that. Having already had to deal with the departure of the star of the Netflix series, Henry Cavill, they were also very disappointed by the spin-off Blood Legacy, very far from being faithful to expectations despite its prestigious cast. Indeed, the presence of Michelle Yeoh, recently Oscar winner for best actress for Everything Everywhere at Once, was not enough to support the project. The only consolation for fans was the release last January of the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 Edition Wild Hunt. What to wait almost four years? Not sure…
