Why is the air quality bad in the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes?

The air quality is poor at the start of the week in certain departments of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region.
The Var, the Bouches-du-Rhône and the Vaucluse are placed on level 1 alert on Tuesday, while the Alpes-Maritimes are at the previous information-recommendation threshold.
The situation will deteriorate this Wednesday, with the passage of Bouches-du-Rhône and Vaucluse in level 2 vigilance, the highest level, and the Alpes-Maritimes in level 1 alert.
Fine particles and weather conditions
This episode of air pollution is linked to “fine particle levels”“still on the rise with the use of heating systems timber, road traffic and the industrial sector”indicate the prefectures of Var and Alpes-Maritimes.
