The hormonal cycle and contraceptives are known to decrease the amount of this mineral which is needed for more than 300 functions in the body, reveals the Healthing media.
“Magnesium plays a major role in managing our hormones,” says health expert Heather Wilson-Phillips. We have to make sure we have a good amount of magnesium at all times”.
According to the Harvard University Department of Health, the recommended amount of magnesium is 310 to 320 mg daily for women ages 19 to 51. The amount increases to 360 mg when the woman is pregnant.
In addition, during pregnancy, magnesium helps to regenerate and repair tissues.
A study has also proven that magnesium, added to vitamin B6, can have a positive impact on premenstrual symptoms such as mood swings, anxiety, water retention, headaches or backaches.
