Cars of the Korean brand Kia Motors are preparing to return to Russia. Now they can be purchased through parallel import, which increases the price. In the meantime, Kia cars are being produced at the newly launched plant in St. Petersburg, previously owned by Hyundai, but it seems that the fresh models have not yet been sent to showrooms.
Hundreds of under-equipped Kia cars are located in Kaliningrad, from where the Koreans supplied cars to mainland Russia until February 2022. Now the cars belong to the Avtotor holding plant, which has already announced the final assembly of the models and their release for sale. Moreover, the Kia Soul and Kia Seltos crossovers and the Kia Cerato sedan were mainly located in Koenigsberg.
But buying such cars may not be safe. Vice-President of the National Automobile Union Anton Shaparin told Autonews.ru regarding possible problems for new Kia owners. “We don’t know for sure how, what and how much was stored. Maybe these components were not unpacked from the containers. Therefore, we cannot say exactly what condition they are in,” Shaparin said.

He also suggested that poor storage conditions put both the Kia’s interior and exterior at risk. “The place where the cars were stored might have rats that might chew through the wiring. If the blocks were not assembled tightly, water might get into them, making them unusable. Also, if cars or spare parts for them were stored in a damp and unheated room, rust might form,” the expert added.
But at the end of the commentary, the US vice-president clarified that Avtotor should not have fundamental problems with the machines. One way or another, now carefully inspect Kia cars when purchasing, especially if they have been temporarily parked in Kaliningrad for almost two years.
