Why Indian films increase tobacco and alcohol consumption, new research reveals key secret

A new study has revealed that children and teenagers who watch Indian movies are more likely to smoke, drink and consume fast food.

In a study conducted by researchers at Vital Strategies and Imperial College in London, 300 films of the Indian film industry Bollywood were reviewed from 1994 to 2013, in which 93% contained alcohol, 70% smoking and 21% fast food, which is harmful to health. Food consumption was shown.

According to research studies, alcohol and smoking are shown as common habits in all Bollywood movies.

According to an estimate, smoking is shown 4 to 5 times in a movie, while drinking scenes are shown 7 times, the researchers said in their report.

Although a study of 20 years of Bollywood films showed advertising of alcohol and smoking, there is now a high consumption of fast food.

However, since 2004, under the Tobacco Control and Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, set by the World Health Organization to prevent the promotion of harmful health products, a slight decrease in its advertising has been seen in films.

Related to this, Vice President of Global Policy and Research Policy, Advocacy and Communication at Vital Strategies said, “Our research shows that the promotion of unhealthy behavior in movies is being transmitted to audiences, especially children.”

He said, “We hope that this research will prove to be an evidence on the use of harmful substances in films and will help to reduce its marketing.”

He further said that the use of all these can lead to various life-threatening diseases like obesity, heart disease and cancer.

Apart from this, the research conducted in other countries of the world also shows that Bollywood movies advertise bad behavior like smoking and alcohol consumption, which is the cause of affecting the health of youth and children.

It should be noted that these days due to the global epidemic, there is a lockdown in various countries due to which educational activities are also suspended.
