It’s not just mere mortals who are saving now, but also celebrities. For example, Cate Blanchett said that she no longer wants to buy new dresses and will appear on the red carpet in those that are already in her collection.
Pamela Anderson also fell in love with minimalism. After the death of her permanent makeup artist, the actress said that she no longer wanted to wear makeup and set a condition: she would only wear a minimal amount of makeup at all events and photo shoots. The main idea of the Baywatch lifeguard was that sitting in front of a mirror for three hours for a couple of photos is a waste of time. And the services of top Hollywood makeup artists cost a lot of money – you can spend it on something more useful.
Celebrities save not only on themselves, but also on their businesses, and paradoxically, this allows them to earn even more. However, the stars are in no hurry to part with money simply because of the popularity of the trend itself, and not because they are afraid of poverty.
For example, until recently, celebrities hired entire production teams to make one advertising post on a social network. Now, to fulfill a contract with Balenciaga, Kim Kardashian just has to casually get out of the car with their bag in her hands. Or take her daughter to an amusement park in the brand’s over-the-knee boots.
This approach really has a much better chance of success. People no longer want to watch Kylie Jenner applying her own brand of lip gloss while sitting with perfect makeup on an artificial cloud that was built for her in the studio. Hailey Bieber is a different story: in order to earn another million, she only needs to take a selfie in the morning and show everyone her glowing skin. Toners and cleansers from her website then fly off the shelves in no time.
“Social media is no longer a place to be creative; all the good angles have been calculated. People just want to make things more personal once more,” says Sean Monaghan, founder of trend forecasting consultancy.
In 2024, Kanye West joined the loud budgeting trend. In order to advertise the new collection of his Yeezy brand, he bought one of the regional air slots at the Super Bowl final for $7 million, but saved on the video itself – he recorded it on the front camera of his phone while driving in the car.
“Hey everybody, this is Ye, and this is my commercial. We spent all our money on the commercial slot. Because of that, we didn’t spend anything on the commercial. But the idea is, I want you to go to yeezy.com. I’ll put the address down there, I got some shoes on there and… That’s it,” the rapper said succinctly.
He then sold sneakers from the new collection for $20,000,000.
