The mint liqueur has reduced its alcohol content, without lowering the price of its bottles, contrary to what Carrefour and Système U wanted.
But where did the Get 27 go? As the end of the year festivities approach, Carrefour and Système U have started to remove the mint liqueur from their shelves, reports the specialized media. Beverage section. Blame it on a recipe change made a few months ago by the Bacardi-Martini group brand but which is not really to the taste of the two distributors, as confirmed by Système U to BFM Business.
At the heart of the dispute, the drop in the alcohol content of Get 27, which fell from 21° to 17.9° in September to cope with soaring production costs. This practice allows the manufacturer to save money by reducing the amount to be paid in respect of the social security contribution set at 579.96 euros/hl of pure alcohol for drinks containing more than 18°, once morest 48.97 euros/ hi below. Hence a Get 27 at 17.9° now.
An increasingly common practice with inflation
Problem, the price of the bottle, him, did not move. Unacceptable for Carrefour and Système U who believe that this change of formula should have been accompanied by a drop in price. In the absence of an agreement with Bacardi-Martini, the two distributors therefore decided to delist the Get 27.
A blow for the mint liqueur which saw its sales increase by 2.8% over one year in November (2.9 million liters), according to figures from Nielsen relayed by Rayon Boissons and which was counting on the Christmas holidays and New Year to end the year in style.
The Get 27 thus joins its “essential” version released in 2021 and which also scores 17.9°. In recent months, other brands have decided to lower their degrees to reduce costs. This is particularly the case for Aperol, which went from 15 to 12.5° at the start of the year, or the Kahlua liqueur, which now measures 16°, once morest 20° just a few months ago.
