“Generation Z”, whose individuals are aged 13 to 26, is the most unhappy of all on the labor market, says a specialist.

“They are happy, on average, at 6.4 out of 10 when they are polled on the subject”, explains in an interview with TVA Nouvelles Annie Boilard, president of the Annie RH Network.
“The national average, across all generations, is 6.6 out of 10. Baby boomers (1946 to 1965) are happy at 7.3 out of 10. So of all generations, Gen Z is the one who is a bit more dissatisfied, less happy on the labor market”, she explains.
Nearly half of Generation Z is therefore looking for good working conditions, even if it means giving up certain economic advantages.
This is according to a recent survey conducted by Indeed, according to which 41% of Gen Z individuals in Quebec are willing to give up a higher salary in order to have a better balance between their work and life. personal.
Also according to this survey, 76% of them believe that the balance between their professional and personal life is the most important criterion.
“Having said that, what I observe is that the salary is not far behind. It remains a generation that is very sensitive regarding the remuneration offered to them, but firstly – first – work-family balance”, nuance Annie Boilard.
The term “family”, however, is generic here, since these young workers, who very often have no family to support, rather wish to travel and enjoy life.
8-hour face-to-face shifts, the famous 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., are also out of the question for this generation.
“It compares well to other generations as well,” says Ms. Boilard. Generally, unless the nature of the work requires being face-to-face, or being available during these time slots, we advocate more flexibility.
Face-to-face work is however not disdained, far from it.
According to a previous survey released last week in the United States, “75% of Gen Z said they would be willing to move house to be closer to work. So we can see it: go to work in the office, it’s relevant for them, it still has value” mentions the president of the Annie RH Network.
Unpaid overtime, as well as unpaid internships are not popular with this generation: “They are sensitive to their remuneration,” says Ms. Boilard.
