This summer, French families spent an average of €2,262 on their holidays. But there is one expense that should be reduced: at the petrol station! Fuel prices are falling, with unleaded 95 costing an average of €1.83 per litre and diesel at €1.70 per litre. Europe 1 explains the reasons for this drop.

After sabotage on the French National Railway Company (SNCF) paralyzed part of the transport, many French people began to switch to cars or carpooling. Attention, Bison futé will see red all over France this Saturday! But the good news is that if you have to hit the road, you will definitely notice that the prices at the gas station are falling. Unleaded 95 petrol is 1.83 euros per liter and diesel is 1.70 euros per liter. The most important thing is that it is related to the price of a barrel of oil.

Euro exchange rate and business operations

At the weekend it was 80 euros, 7 euros less than at the beginning of the month. This is enough to keep fuel prices down, confirms Francis Pousse, national president of Mobilians petrol stations and new energies. “Since oil prices have been falling for several weeks, all prices on the French network are falling. In addition, the euro has strengthened slightly. These two factors therefore favour the fall in fuel prices. In fact, this is very fortunate because it is the turn of the summer when fuel is falling”, he analyses.

Another factor has also been pushing down petrol prices in recent days. These are the cost-price operations implemented by Leclerc, Système U and even Intermarché, Francis Pousse recalls, although the impact remains more limited. “This actually reduces the price by one or two cents, since this is the average profit that supermarkets charge for fuel, so in fact, in the end, for a 50-litre tank, it does not represent a lot, it is a commercial operation”, adds the expert. .

Of course it is a commercial operation, but you can easily make a profit from it. Since in France half of the stations are owned by major retail brands.
