Application: He screwed up his interview upon arrival
One company paid very close attention to first impressions. A candidate was immediately rejected just a few minutes following entering the company building.
That’s what it’s regarding

An example from a Reddit post shows how important the first impression is in a job interview.

A candidate for a customer-facing position has already been tested at reception – and failed.
-
The “receptionist” was the personnel manager, who then declared the conversation over.
How do you prepare for a job interview? Most probably with looking for a map and public transport connections, finding out regarding the participants and the advertised position as well as the company itself. Also, to think regarding possible questions.
An example that is currently circulating on Reddit shows that the first impression following entering the building can actually count. The post in the Life Pro Tips group appears to have come from a senior executive. It says: “Today a candidate screwed up his interview in the first five minutes following entering the building.”
Interaction with the «Receptionist»
According to the post, the candidate applied for a position that requires customer-centric, warm-hearted, approachable, and outgoing demeanor. But the man had already behaved dismissively towards the receptionist. She greeted him and he barely kept eye contact. Then she tried to engage him in conversation. Again, no eye contact and no apparent interest in speaking to her. In addition, he was “openly rude” and treated her as if she were “below his dignity”. When he thought he was talking to the decision maker, his personality completely changed.
What the candidate did not notice: The “receptionist” was the head of human resources. The man was then called into the conference room and told how “valuable and respectful every single person on our team” is. Due to his interaction with the “receptionist”, the HR manager found the candidate unsuitable. “Thank you for your time, but the interview is over,” it said before the interview had even started. “Be nice to everyone in the building,” was the message at the end.
