Elon Musk’s plan to terraform Mars

Nuclear weapons are deployed all over Mars, exploding all at once, and white flashes run through the red dots in the sky.

A nuclear bomb detonated on Mars will bombard the surface of Mars with intense heat and radiation. By destroying Mars with nukes, it will change into a planet that humans can live on.

Does this kind of thinking really work?

Elon Musk drew attention when he said on a talk show, “I will nuclear attack Mars and change the planet’s environment so that humans can live on it.” But let’s not forget that he is an engineer, not a scientist.

“The Infographics Show” points out that he is not a reliable source of scientific information. He has no advanced degree in science and has never published peer-reviewed scientific research.

However, he has a bachelor’s degree in physics. But most of it is solid state physics and has nothing to do with geology, biology, climate physics, or anything related to changes on Mars.

Therefore, his remark that “If we drop a thermonuclear weapon on Mars, humans will be able to live on it” lacks credibility.

The purpose of a nuclear attack on Mars is to release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and warm the planet.

Currently, the average temperature on Mars is -62°C. It is clear that this environment is a harsh environment for most life forms on the earth, including human beings. To heat up Mars, we need more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to keep heat in.

Most of Mars’ atmosphere now consists of CO2, an important greenhouse gas. But the amount is not enough. Water vapor is also a greenhouse gas and can increase temperatures. Mars also has a significant amount of frozen water, so a nuclear strike might turn the ice into water vapor and release it into the atmosphere.

The earth’s atmosphere contains greenhouse gases such as CO2 and water vapor, which is why we can live comfortably on earth. So Musk is going to use nuclear attacks to change the composition of Mars’ atmosphere so that it can retain its heat and make it our second home.

In theory, a nuclear attack on Mars would definitely release water vapor and a lot of CO2 into the atmosphere. However, there are some problems with this plan.
