Why does everyone have to change their username on Discord?
Currently, Discord usernames are quite free and have four numbers at the end, which are called discriminators. With a new infrastructure, Discord will no longer rely on the set of numbers at the end of each username, which will make each name more unique for each user.
The app ensures that the change will happen to help users in the process of identifying and connecting with friends. However, the community does show some concern, with many users citing a fear of the change making the app more confusing, as well as the risk of privacy being affected.
How will your new username have to be?
Now, Discord usernames will be able to display words with characters from the alphabet, a to z, or numbers from 0 to 9. In addition, it will be possible to use an underscore and also a period.
Your new name must be between 2 and 32 characters long. It is important to remember that the user will not be allowed continuous dots, as well as you will not be able to differentiate uppercase letters from lowercase letters.
Older accounts will be able to change their username before more recently created accounts. The changes will roll out over the next few weeks, and all users will be notified.
