‘Why do you protect the cartels?’; Republican Dan Crenshaw sends message to AMLO

Dan Crenshaw, Republican representative and author of the initiative presented in the Foreign Affairs Committee to allow the use of military force once morest Mexican drug cartels, sent a message directly to Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Wednesday, asking him : “Why do you protect the cartels?”

Crenshaw, a former Seal who fought in Afghanistan and lost an eye there, and who lived for years in Colombia, listed the impact that cartels have had in Mexico and the United Statesin a message completely in Spanish.

“These are the same ones that have murdered the Mexican people for the last 20 years; the same ones that recently murdered two Americans who were visiting Mexico for a medical procedure; the same ones that recently began trafficking fentanyl into my country, which has unleashed the mass poisoning of more than 70,000 Americans a year,” he said.

Crenshaw argued that what is happening is not just a drug problem. “We can live with a drug problem,” he said. However, what exists, he warned, is a “mass poisoning problem of the citizens of the United States and the cartels are directly responsible.”

For this reason, he launched a series of questions for López Obrador: “Why do you reject help from the United States? Why do you protect the cartels? They are your enemy, and the United States is your friend.”

He assured that he only seeks “the success of Mexico and a better life for the Mexican people. We can help them, if they let us. If you allow us to help you with our vast resources and capabilities, we can end the violence of the cartels once and for all.” all”.

Crenshaw said that “we cannot allow this to continue. This is not regarding us once morest you. This is the United States and Mexico fighting together once morest a common enemy: the cartels.”. And we don’t want to fight this battle alone. We want to fight alongside you and the Mexican people. We want Mexico to be free, safe and prosperous.”

He stressed that “Mexico is our most important ally. We need you and, likewise, you need us. This —the cartels— is a threat that unites Mexico and the United States, both Democrats and Republicans.”

The representative concluded his message with a call to López Obrador and the US president, Joe Biden, “to move forward with a plan to fight the cartels together. It will be the best for the people of both countries and I hope they will consider it.”

López Obrador has denounced what he calls “interventionist attempts” by the United States and warns that “Mexico’s sovereignty is respected.”
