Why does my toilet smell bad? What are the causes ?
Apart from the smell that emanates from our “natural needs”, which we all already know, most of the indelicate scents come from the scale and limescale deposits that form those ugly yellowish stains in the bowl. You know, the ones you keep rubbing, but refuse to go away completely! It can also come from the toilet drain which is clogging the entire bathroom. In truth, it is important to know exactly where these unpleasant odors come from, to fight directly at the source. Because, if there is in particular a real blockage, difficult to counter, the immediate intervention of a plumber could be necessary. Often also, the smell can result from clogging due to hair or detergent residue stuck inside. This is usually less serious, it can easily be resolved. More rarely, when the toilets are not used often and therefore poorly disinfected, it is very likely that germs and bacteria, coming from the sewers, will proliferate and affect the entire area. The downside to all of this is that the products sold on the market are not always really effective. That’s why our natural remedies are timely!
Sometimes, life is complicated, while some simple tips can quickly overcome the bad odors emanating from your toilet. You still need to know them, of course! Among the most promising natural ingredients, we find, of course, baking soda and white vinegar, the two favorite products of our grandmothers. And, it is not a coincidence since they will help you to disinfect the places well, but also to restore the protective patina of the toilets, thus driving out all the bad odors which bother you. The combination of the two is even more powerful: prepare a mixture consisting of half a glass of vinegar and three teaspoons of baking soda. Want a little scented touch? Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Pour this mixture into a container with an atomizer and spray the entire toilet area. Leave on for at least half an hour and then scrub thoroughly with the toilet brush. Your toilet bowl will never have been so clean and shiny. And did you notice? The foul odors are no longer there. But these cleansing agents aren’t the only ones that will put a smile on your face!

Brewer’s yeast against persistent odors

Cleaning enthusiasts also recommend using a cube of brewer’s yeast. But why ? Have you ever heard of this deodorizing solution? In addition to its uses in the kitchen or in cosmetics, it turns out that brewer’s yeast is also an ideal remedy to purify the toilets, in addition without preservatives or corrosive elements. Go hop, in the evening, just dissolve a small cube in a glass of boiling water. Once you get a fluffy consistency, pour it straight into the toilet bowl. Forget it for the whole night (no less than 8 hours anyway) and the next day, just flush the toilet. Result ? Absolute cleanliness and you feel something…no, nothing in the air!
N.B : of course, if you don’t have a cube, a sachet of brewer’s yeast will have exactly the same effect. You will only have to empty it into the bowl, adding a small spoonful of sugar. Leave on overnight and flush the toilet the next morning.

Brilliant tip: strike a match
This option, surely overlooked, will not help you eradicate dirt, but it will dispel lingering odors in a big way. Carefully throw a lit match into your toilet bowl.
