Books – Karim Hassan:

Some people feel sad without clear reasons, or without exposure to a specific situation or bad event that causes that feeling, so what is the secret behind that?

The Conselto explains in the following lines, the interpretation of feeling sad without clear reasons, according to the “Healthline” website.

1- depression

Although not everyone with depression feels sad, unexplained sadness that you can’t get rid of is one of the primary signs of depression.

If the feeling of sadness is associated with depression, the person is likely to feel sad all the time, with some other symptoms, such as anxiety, irritability, guilt or worthlessness, tiredness and lack of energy, as well as some other problems.

2- Rapid mood swings

People with bipolar disorder often have episodes of depression as part of a cycle that also includes episodes of mania.

You may notice that you suddenly feel very happy. This sudden change in mood may also include impulsive behavior, restlessness and irritability, a renewed sense of energy, and increased confidence and self-esteem.

3- Seasonal sadness

It may seem that grief can intensify around the same time of year, as the days begin to shrink in winter and fall, and once the longer and brighter days of spring and summer arrive, you will feel better year after year.

If this seasonal sadness continues and becomes serious enough to affect daily life, you may have seasonal affective disorder, a type of depression that occurs with seasonal changes.

4- Sadness before menstruation, during pregnancy or after childbirth

Reproductive hormones can also play a role in symptoms of depression. Symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder generally appear a week or so before your period starts. Along with symptoms of depression, you may feel anxious, nervous, or otherwise.

Perinatal depression includes episodes of depression that may begin during pregnancy or at any time in the first year after birth, and may include concerns about the ability to care for the baby.

Symptoms of depression can also develop with menopause, or the transition period before it, leading to intense crying, loss of interest in usual activities, and difficulty coping with normal stressors.
