Books – Ali Shebl:

One of the councils of knowledge of Dr. Ali Gomaa, the former Grand Mufti and a member of the Council of Senior Scholars, witnessed a rebuke from the sheikh to some of his students. They tried to leave his council to move to one of the other sheikhs in the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif mosque, which sparked interaction and controversy over: “The children who rose up. Salafism Dol or else..?” Then he directed his words to them and asked them: “Why are you staying, Wadi? You and him…Where are you going?”

One of the departing students replied: “We are going to Sheikh Mustafa… Mustafa Al-Azhari.” He asked them: Who is Sheikh Mustafa, and the response came to him that he was Sheikh Mustafa Reda, which aroused the resentment of the former mufti.

A member of the Council of Senior Scholars continued, amid the laughter of the audience: “You did this while we were in the lesson. He says, “This is a very strange thing! By God, I have never seen anything like this. We are really at the end of time.”

After the video spread on the communication sites, activists were divided between a supporter of the sheikh and a critic, as some criticized Juma’s behavior and his embarrassment to young students, and others described the students’ departure as a lack of respect for a great scholar to get up from his council and they started sitting from the ground up.

In conclusion, the video of Sheikh Ali Gomaa rebuking his students for trying to leave his council caused controversy and division among social media users. While some supported the sheikh’s behavior, others criticized it as an embarrassment to the younger generation.
