Confession of alcoholism and regret for failed marriage
During the interview, Javed Akhtar admitted that my marriage with Honey Irani failed because I used to be an alcoholic. I adopted an irresponsible attitude.
Javed Akhtar said that ‘when a person is drunk, he takes emotional decisions, you start quarreling over these issues which are not really big issues, but these mistakes have been made by me’.
Javed Akhtar’s advice to the youth for drinking
He advised today’s youth to stay away from drinking and said that ‘I wasted a lot of time drinking, I was an alcoholic but I stopped drinking on 31st July 1991’.
The renowned writer added that I wasted at least 10 years in alcoholism when I could have used my time for positive and good purposes because if I compare my life now with my past life, I did not make any big mistake after giving up alcohol, so I would advise the youth that if you drink alcohol, give it up’.
Personal life of Javed Akhtar
Javed Akhtar was first married to actress Honey Irani in 1972, with whom he has two children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar, but Javed and Honey Irani got separated in 1985.
Javed Akhtar was married to Shabana Azmi on 9 December 1984.
