Highlights

37 — In the past, an outside consulting firm implemented an ERP system. The firm interviewed your company’s workforce and created a book. The process ranged from three months to a year (or more). Then another company, with ERP programming language expertise, was hired. It translated the specs into code, and you got the code back. Then you went back to the developer, and they went back to the designer. It could take years to put in an ERP system.

54 — The process was expensive. It took you several years to go from, “Hey, let’s start the design,” to implementation.

13 — ERP projects were always late and took too long. It was not efficient. Modern ERP is in the cloud. The vendors manage maintenance and upgrades.

45 — You say, “Here’s the way I want to pay my bill, because this is how I do it today. ” And the vendor or vendor partner says, “We have four ways to pay the bill in your industry.” Now you have another way to pay a bill.

08 — You can look at two ways to implement. There’s a reengineering of process, which takes more work. Or more of a quick fix. You’ll replace the old system and add features later, incrementally.

44 You as the cloud ERP customers are testing and changing as you go. It’s a much more incremental process. A lot more people can help, including perhaps your own, with tools like low-code/no-code and robotic process automation (RPA).

18 — You can see the difference between old and modern ERP. With modern ERP, you have a lot of flexibility. If you’re implementing an ERP system today, don’t be seduced by the old consultant model.

29 — After all, that’s what the Acceleration Economy is all about: taking advantage of the vendors’ tools to benefit your company.
