Currently 12th in the Premier League standings, Chelsea are not seeing their heavy investments pay off. Despite spending more than 600 million euros in two transfer windows, the Blues can practically say goodbye to any European Cup next season. In an interview with Sky Sports, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said he was “happy” to see that piling up millions and players is not enough to succeed.

Money does not guarantee success. Weeks pass and Todd Boehly is increasingly confronted with this reality. After buying Chelsea from the hands of Roman Abramovich, the American was quick to align the considerable sums on the transfer market. Seeing that the 60 million euros invested in Cucurella and Sterling were not enough, the Blues broke their piggy bank once more with the January signings of Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez.

Despite more than 600 million spent in two transfer windows, the Londoners are 12th and should not compete in any European Cup at this rate next season. A failure making “a little happy” Jürgen Klopp. At the microphone of Sky Sportsthe Liverpool manager, however, said he had nothing personal once morest Chelsea: “I’m a little sorry for Chelsea (…) but on the other hand, it’s good to see that we can’t just collect top players and think it’s going to work.”

“Chelsea will get out of this eventually”

Twice winner of the Champions League, and champion of England in 2020 with Liverpool, Klopp agreed to give the Blues the keys to success, and also what not to do: “You have to build a team and that’s what the players have underestimated, giving their coaches an almost impossible task to do. You have to build relationships, team spirit, and that’s the only reason I’m a bit happy ( that Chelsea struggles).”

The German technician remains convinced that a bright future awaits the Blues, and that they will be formidable opponents next season: “Chelsea will eventually come out of it and will be incredibly strong.”

Asked regarding a potential need to change the cycle for Liverpool, Klopp announced the movement to come, but not to the point of imitating the Londoners: “We can’t do that (…) We have to bring in the right players and build a new team. This team has written a sensational story and now we are starting a new one, that’s all.” The Reds are currently 7th and seven units from a qualifying place for the next Champions League.
