This question was answered by the CEO of Grupo Aristeo, Estela Marina, who warned this week about the worrying increase in the number of marriage registration denials at the Spanish Consulate in Havana.
In a live broadcast via YouTubethe expert from the group specializing in immigration and foreign affairs procedures, drew attention to some of the most common mistakes made by couples under scrutiny.
The Spanish consulate in Cuba is denying marriage registration applications, justifying this with reasons such as “fraud of law and marriage of convenience.”
Estela Marina pointed out that there is a repetitive pattern in the disapprovals.
“The denials are issued under the pretext that the marriage is fraudulent. Consulate officials seem to be discovering inconsistencies in spouses’ responses during hearings,” he said.

In general terms, the specialist listed some of the most common mistakes couples make.
“If you are married and if your relationship is truly serious and you are truly married and you want to come and live in Spain with your spouse, I cannot understand why you do not know what colour toothbrush your husband put in the bathroom or what underwear your husband wears,” she said.
She also gave other examples: “Or what is the name of your mother-in-law? Or what is the name of your husband’s family? I think that couples should know those kinds of details, right? I mean, what is the name of your mother-in-law, your father-in-law, your husband’s family, what sport does he play, if the husband, of course, has, I don’t know, boxers or wears thongs, or what color he likes the most.”
Estela Marina admits that these are “perhaps slightly uncomfortable” questions, but she assures that the official can ask them to verify that the marriage is truly a legal marriage and not a fraud of the law.
