It’s a fact, the sounds of nature induce a state of relaxation that fights stress. Discover them in this space!

Throughout evolution and history, human beings have enjoyed the sounds of nature. However, these were largely overshadowed by the noises of the city. Therefore, many decide to move to fields, forests, beaches and natural parks to listen to them.
The song of the birds and the sound of the wind, the sea, the rain, among others, have a relaxing effect that is reflected at the physical and mental level. In fact, some studies support the benefits they bring to human health. In the following space we will tell you more regarding it.
The health benefits of nature sounds
Man has always been in contact with nature and its sounds. However, little was known regarding the health benefits they bring. The truth is that exposure to natural environments has therapeutic effects that are appreciated more than ever today.
As we well know, living in urban contexts takes us away from nature and exposes us not only to annoying noises, but also to a hectic lifestyle and constant stress. On the contrary, disconnecting in green spaces, near rivers and where it is possible to appreciate nature, improves mood and reduces the negative effects of stress.
A review of studies published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences supports these assertions. According to the publication, sounds like the whistling of the wind, the chirping of birds and the gurgling of streams have not only calming effects, but also therapeutic ones.
What does the study say?
The cited study focused on analyzing the health benefits of nature sounds. It was led by Rachel T. Burton, a Canadian biologist, who detailed the following:
“From an evolutionary perspective, humans are wired to pay attention to signals of danger and safety. And an environment filled with natural sounds is safe and allows us to let our guard down.
In this way, it was determined that exposure to these sounds can reduce the rate of disease and death. It was even linked to decreased pain, better mood, and better performance on cognitive tests.
The hypothesis suggests that these influence the brain and the autonomic nervous system, involved in the regulation of emotions and the control of sleep.
Other finds…
Previous studies have made similar conclusions. In a survey shared by Scientific Reports, it was observed that people who spent two hours a week outdoors in a natural environment (urban parks, forests and beaches) reported a better state of health and well-being.
For its part, a meta-analysis published by Lancet Public Health reported that people who lived near or in green spaces tended to have a longer life expectancy than those less exposed to these environments.

Relationship with emotions
Nature sounds not only improve physical health, but also contribute to emotional well-being. They help reduce irritation, anger and even sadness.
One of its biggest influences is stress. Listening to them promotes calm and induces a state of relaxation. Therefore, it is always recommended to do outdoor activities to release tension.
Noise pollution is harmful
People have concentrated to a large extent in urban centers. As society evolved, we built a way of life centered around big cities and towns.
Thus, we are gradually moving away from nature. Moreover, the noise of transport, factories and even the population itself invaded the environment. This is called “acoustic pollution”.
This influences behavior and well-being. It has been linked to multiple health issues; for example, with hearing loss. However, it goes beyond that. It seems that the incidence of cardiovascular diseases, sleep disorders, nervous system disorders, among others, is increasing.
For this reason, it is important to give yourself space in natural settings whenever possible. It can even become a daily habit if there are green spaces near the house or work.
Examples of Nature Sounds
These sounds can come from different sources. In the first place, we find those of biological sources, such as the song of birds. On the other hand, there are those of geology itself. For example, rain, waves, wind whistling, river water, etc.

What is there to remember?
The sounds of natural environments provide interesting health benefits. They help reduce stress, control emotions and improve overall mood. They can even reduce disease incidence and death rates.
For this reason, it is recommended that all people spend time in their lives doing activities in nature. Learning to appreciate moments of solitude and contact with it can help achieve a healthier life.
