Why Adam Sandler is so successful as a loser

He’s probably always been the class clown. And yet it was his brother’s suggestion Scottto perform as a standup comedian at a Boston nightclub, the Adam Sandler brought to the stage and to the high art of professional joke-making.

Over the 1990s and 2000s, it was mostly roles as a clumsy, slightly slow-witted and still lovable boy with which the son of an electrical engineer, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, played his way into the hearts of cinema audiences. Sandler was the “goofy guy”, a charming giant baby who, despite or perhaps because of his stupidity, turned from outsider to secret winner over the course of many films.

“Loser stuff belongs to me”

Now, Sandler revealed that he can identify with his roles, no matter how unglamorous they may be. “I often feel like I’m out of place,” the actor said on the Little Gold Men podcast. “This feeling of discomfort and the loser stuff that I’ve been doing for years is part of me.”
