The second week of the trial of the eight accused of beating Fernando Báez Sosa to death will close tomorrow with testimonial statements of two volunteer firefighters from Villa Gesell, who assisted the victim following the attack suffered in front of the nightclub “Le Brique”, and a young man from Zárate who denounced one of the rugby players weeks before the event for an alleged assault.
Judicial sources indicated that these will be the only witnesses of the tenth day of hearings before the Oral Criminal Court 1 of Doloressince others initially scheduled for the same day were withdrawn by both the prosecutors Juan Manuel Dávila and Gustavo García, as well as the lawyers for the victim’s family, Fernando Burlando and Fabián Améndola.
After the hearing this Thursday, marked by the surprise statement by Luciano Pertossi (21), the first defendant to break the silence since the start of the trial, this Friday only those three witnesses will testify.
Two of them, Veronica Onieva and Javier Timoteoare members of the Gesell Volunteer Fire Department, who assisted Báez Sosa minutes following he was attacked in front of the dance venue located on Avenida 3.
Although both testimonies were scheduled for the last week of the trial, they were finally rescheduled for tomorrow starting at 9, on the first floor of the courts.
Then it will be the turn of Pablo Gastón Zapata, a young man from Zárate who, weeks before Fernando’s crime, had denounced one of the defendants for an alleged assault in that town in northern Buenos Aires.
“Tomorrow there will be a very interesting concept witness who speaks of the same modus operandi. We want to generate conviction in court of how the plan was. That it was outlined and that it was organized quickly. That they already had predetermined roles for a long time in aggressive situations. They knew how to hit two or three,” said Fernando Burlando while waiting for Zapata’s testimony.
The lawyer for the victim’s parents wants to make clear how the accused acted, which was not new at the time of Fernando’s murder. “Everyone [en Zárate] I knew what kind of people they were. One wonders how far an educator has to go to avoid a tragedy. I think the family did know. We would have to assess who is responsible for so much savagery. See why the coaches, the schools, the houses, everything fail, ”she expressed.
