Why a Keynote in October is unlikely

After the iPhone and Apple Watch, what does Apple have in store for its Macs and iPads? Two signs suggest that the answer could disappoint fans of the brand.

Apple presented its new iPhone and Apple Watch during its Keynote on September 14, 2023. But iPad and Mac fans were disappointed not to see any announcements for these products. So, does this mean Apple won’t be holding a Mac and iPad Keynote in October?

Two unmistakable signs

There are two clues that suggest the answer is yes. First of all, the release of macOS Sonoma on September 26, 2023. Apple usually releases the new version of macOS at the same time as new Macs. The fact that macOS Sonoma was released before the new Macs suggests that Apple doesn’t have any new Macs to announce in October.

Second, the lack of an Apple Silicon M3 chip. Apple has announced that it will release a new generation of Apple Silicon M3 chips in 2023. However, Ming-Chi Kuo claims that these chips will not be available until 2024. This suggests that Apple has no new Macs to announce in October, because they would not be equipped with the new chip.

A glimmer of hope for the iPad Air 6

There is, however, a glimmer of hope for iPad fans. According to some sources, the iPad Air 6 could be announced in October. However, this does not guarantee that a dedicated Keynote will be held. Apple could simply announce the iPad Air 6 on its website.

Given the two signs mentioned above, it is very unlikely that Apple will hold a Mac and iPad Keynote in October 2023. So iPad and Mac fans will have to wait until 2024 to see new products.
