The TV legend also came under fire following revealing that she planned to cook the dish by ‘basting it’ for 12 hours in the oven at only 200 degrees – with many online users wondering if it’s safe to cook meat at such a low temperature.

‘It is Thanksgiving Eve and I’m making my mother’s famous turkey. We’re doing everything to get her ready to put her in the oven at 9 o’clock tonight,’ she shared.

Basting is a method that involves cooking a piece of meat in liquid and continuously spooning the juices from the bottom of the dish onto the top to help it cook.
Whoopi, who spent the holiday in Italy, explained that she and her other family members were going to take turns basting the turkey all night long.
‘We keep [the heat] on low so she has a chance to absorb all this stuff,’ she added.

‘I’ve taken a moment out of my cooking time to come and respond to some of you because you’re asking me all kinds of questions, some I kind of feel like you should know the answer to,’ The View alum stated.

In the end, the star said that while she’s certainly no expert in cooking, a Thanksgiving turkey is the one thing she knows how to make.
