Who is Baby Lasagna

Marko Purisic is Baby Lasagna’s real name. The Croatian singer is 28 years old and was born on July 5, 1995. From the age of 8, the future artist began to play the guitar.

Purisic began his career with the Croatian rock band Manntra, where he was a guitarist. The artist played there from 2011 to 2016. The musician then returned to the group in 2018. However, he still ended his career with Mantra.

In 2023, the artist began using his pseudonym for the first time. It’s interesting that Baby Lasagna got to Eurovision literally by miracle. He was the first understudy, who was specially “kept” in case all the other candidates refused to participate in the song competition.

Why Baby Lasagna is accused of plagiarism

Purisic’s song immediately caused mixed reactions. The melody is really rhythmic and fiery, the lyrics are easy to remember, and the musician’s movements literally “charge” everyone at the dance. However, many immediately thought that Rim Tim Dagi Dim might be plagiarism.

“There are patterns in his performance. In addition, he strongly resembles the winners of 2021 Maneskin and last year’s “prize-winner” Finnish artist Kaarija. It is unlikely that this will cause any rejection among the audience of the show, but there will not be the wow effect that there was when people saw Maneskin or Kaarija for the first time,” noted music observer Igor Panasov.

And producer Denis Putintsev said that any person who does not even watch the song competition, but sees Baby Lasagna’s performance, will immediately notice plagiarism.

“If the then representative of Finland simply copied Rammstein and combined it with different jokes and dances, and it turned out energetic and interesting. This time the Croatian cosplays the Finn. This is a traditional Eurovision disease, when there is always a participant who copies last year’s winner or one of the brightest participants, who was one of the leaders,” explained the media expert.

In addition, the track was repeatedly discussed by bloggers. They noticed that Baby Lasagna “plagiarized” not only Rammstein, Maneskin and Kaarija. Thus, blogger Jane noted that the artist “borrowed” the idea and music from the Croatian group PAIN, namely from their song “Party In My Head”.

Plagiarism and certain similarities were also noticed by Ukrainian blogger Vanya Russell. He also noted that something else is immediately “heard”; we are not talking regarding originality.

However, this did not prevent the artist from receiving second place.

Lyrics of the song “Rim Tim Dagi Dim”

“Ay, I’m a big boy now
I’m ready to leave, ciao, mamma, ciao
Ay, I’m a big boy now
I’m going away and I sold my cow

Before I leave, I must confess
I need a round of decompress
One more time for all the good times
Rim-tim-tagi-digi, dim-tim-tim

Gonna miss you all, but mostly the cat
Gonna miss my hay, gonna miss my bed
But most of all, I’ma miss the dance
So come on y’all, let us prance

Now don’t call, don’t write
I’m leavin’ with the first light
Don’t cry, but dance
Rim-tim-tagi-digi, dim-tim-tim

There’s no going back (whoa)
My presence fades to black (whoa)
Yeah, there’s no going back (whoa)
My anxiety attacks (whoa)
Rim-tim-tag-dig, dim-tim-tag-dig-dim

I hope I find peace in the noise
Wanna become one of them city boys
They’re all so pretty and so advanced
Maybe they also know our dance

Bye mom, bye dad
Meow, cat, please, meow back
Don’t cry, just dance
Rim-tim-tagi-digi, dim-tim-tim

There’s no going back (whoa)
My presence fades to black (whoa)
Yeah, there’s no going back (whoa)
My anxiety attacks (whoa)
Rhyme-tim-tag-digi-dim-tim-tag-digi-dim

There’s no going back (whoa)
My presence fades to black (whoa)
There’s no going back (whoa)
Anxiety attacks (whoa)
Rim-tim-tag-dig, dim-tim-tag-dig-dim

There’s no going back (whoa)
My presence fades to black (whoa)
Yeah, there’s no going back (whoa)
My anxiety attacks (whoa)
Rhythm-tim-tag-dig, dim-tim-tag-dig-dim”
