Former President César Gaviria, head of the Liberal Party, met this Tuesday in a hotel in western Bogotá with members of his caucus in Congress with the purpose of reaching an agreement on which of the presidential candidates they are going to support.

It was clear from the start that that support would be for Federico Gutiérrez or for Gustavo Petro.
But it was also defined that among the senators the majority of support was for Fico, while among the representatives it was for Petro.
After several hours of meeting, the congressmen decided to leave it up to the head of the community to make the decision.
This was reported by the party through its Twitter account, where it revealed that former President Cesar Gaviria Trujillo was empowered by the Senate and House benches to choose the presidential candidate of the Liberal Party.
And now, what’s next? TIME knew that what is coming is that Gaviria is going to meet with the candidate he defines in order to explain the platform that the party defined, contemplated in the 17 pages.
If the candidate agrees with what is stated there, the agreement will be ready for liberalism to support it. What has transpired is that Gaviria has expressed certain objections to some of Petro’s proposals and continues to be annoyed with the questions that his vice-presidential formula, Francia Márquez, has made to him.
And the Liberal Party in the last elections for Congress, he obtained more than 2 million votes for the Senate, which makes him a leading actor in a presidential election.
Thus, the determination of who is going to support the Liberal Party could be defined on the night of this same Tuesday or tomorrow.
