who will benefit from it?

To simplify the use of its App Store for certain developers, Apple will give the possibility of creating applications which can only be downloaded via a shared link.

Apple adds hidden applications to the App Store: who will be able to benefit from them?

Entangled in its worries regarding App Store and alternative payments Around the world, Apple is always trying to convince developers of the merits of its system and its security. The brand has just deployed a new function that allows you to install an application that does not yet appear on the store.

Named “Unlisted App Distribution(Distribution of applications not listed in VF), this function will give developers the possibility of offering the installation of an application through a direct link, without having to make it public. According to Apple, this concerns applications “not suitable for public distribution ».

Sharing via a simple link

With Unlisted App Distribution, developers will still need to have their app validated by Apple following completing the App Store review process, with a specific request for this option and unlisted app status.

They will then have the option of sharing the app only with a restricted circle of users via a standard link which will return to the App Store for downloading. This may be useful for educational applications related to certain schools or research departments in universities, private corporate events, small company setups for internal use, etc.

This possibility offered by Apple is however different from a beta version to share and the app must be in final version. Unlike the Play Store where a link can be sent to test an application in beta, the App Store still requires going through the TestFlight tool if the app is not ready to be offered on the store.
