The eldest son of King Charles III of Great Britain and the deceased Princess Diana William became the new Prince of Wales. This was stated by the monarch himself in his first televised address on September 9.
“My heir William now assumes the Scottish titles that meant so much to me. He becomes the Duke of Cornwall… Today I proudly pronounce him Prince of Wales,” said the King.
Remembering his mother, Elizabeth II, His Majesty noted that she had lived a good life. He thanked her for her love and devotion to her family and people, whom she had “diligently served all these years.”
“I know that her death brings great sadness to many of you. And I share this feeling of immense loss with all of you,” Charles III said in an address to the nation.
He promised that the values of the monarchy would remain unchanged, and assured that he would serve the people “with loyalty, respect and love.” His Majesty undertook during his reign to “uphold the constitutional principles” which underlie the British nation.
The Prince of Wales is the title of heir to the throne of Great Britain. Since 1958, it has been worn by Prince Charles, the son of Elizabeth II, who became king following her death.
