Who will attend and who will not, the role of Anna Maria

In 2024, he reserved for his end, two wedding ceremonies with a royal aroma.

The first was of Princess Martha Louise of Norway who married Durek Verrett in Geiranger village and the Union Hotel and the second is of course this coming Saturday at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens with King Constantine’s daughter Theodora preparing to exchange vows of fidelity and devotion to her longtime lover, Matthew Kumar.

Everything, as reported, is ready for the wedding ceremony which was postponed several times, due to circumstances and of course the loss of Constantine. In fact, it is reported abroad that only one other couple from a generation of kings in the past had “delayed” their wedding: it is Princess Olga of Greece and the Duke of Savoy-Aosta, Aimone, who had announced their engagement in 2005 and married in September 16, 2008.

In recent weeks, both the invitation, the historic veil that Theodora chose to wear and which in the past have been chosen for their wedding by several blue-bloods to the Danish throne, and the locations chosen for the welcome dinner have become known, the wedding reception, but also the farewell brunch. However, what has not been made known is the tiara that Constantine’s daughter will choose, but also who will finally attend both the ceremony and the wedding reception. And this as there are some important events that happened in the interim, such as the injury of the now honorary queen of Denmark, Margaret II, who also happens to be one of Theodora’s godmothers, but also the death of Queen Elizabeth of England, who she was also her godmother.

To all this must be added the factor that wants Constantine’s daughter, although she has finished her studies in England, to have effectively withdrawn to America, following her own path and career and selectively keeping some “friends” among the rest younger blue bloods of Europe, with very selective appearances also at royal invitations in Europe, along with all the rest of her cousins, like that meeting they had last year in Denmark.

Who is expected at the wedding?

A question mark arises for those invited from the throne of England, as there is already information that King Charles and Queen Camilla will be next Saturday in Scotland for the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Parliament. While as for the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and his wife Kate, it looks like they won’t be attending as the Princess needs rest and strength after completing cancer treatments. Therefore, the burden falls on Royal Princess Anne, but also on the sisters – Princesses of York, Princess Eugenia, daughter of Prince Andrew and Duchess Sarah Ferguson, and Princess Beatrice’s sister with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. A couple who also attended Philip’s wedding to Nina Flor in 2021. As well as the children of Royal Princess Anne, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall.

The close ties of Theodora with the Spanish throne seem to bring the whole family, or at least several members, to Greece. First, Queen Mother Sophia, Theodora’s godmother, Infanta Christina and Infanta Elena, and of course Constantine’s sister, Irene. On the other hand, the obligations alone will regulate whether the King of Spain, Philip, will attend with his wife, Letizia, while it will not be at all unlikely that Infanta Eleonora, Princess of Asturias and Infanta will attend together with their grandmother Sophia.

An injury to Denmark’s honorary queen Margaret II, who is also Theodora’s godmother, rules her out of attending the wedding ceremony, as doctors have advised rest and minimal travel. Her sister, Princess Benedicti, who also attended Philip’s wedding, will probably attend, since she wants to “support” her younger sister, Anna-Maria, at her child’s wedding. Together with her daughter, Princess Alexandra, who also attended Philip’s wedding. Without of course excluding the arrival of the King of Denmark, Frederick I’, and his brother, Prince Joachim, as representatives of their mother, Queen Margaret.

Theodora’s friendly relations with Princess Madeleine of Sweden are expected to bring her and her husband, Christopher O’Neill, to Greece and the wedding. And this is because the two couples have friendly relations and secondly because the Swedish princess and her stockbroker husband live permanently in New York, where Theodora and Matthew have visited them. It is not excluded, however, that Victoria of Sweden and her husband, Prince Daniel, or Prince Carl Philip of Sweden and his wife, Princess Sofia, will attend the wedding ceremony.

Although Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands was among the first to attend King Constantine’s funeral procession, no one yet knows if she will attend. Unlike the so-called “Hanovers Brothers” princes Ernst August Junior and Christian, who will reportedly be among the first to arrive for the wedding. Since they have very good relations with their cousins, between them and Theodora.

It is also expected to see if Princes Napoleon of Montfort, Amendeo of Belgium and Archduke of Austria and Hussein of Jordan will attend, as they did at Philip’s wedding to Nina Flor. While the presence of Margarita of Romania is taken for granted, as her father was also Theodora’s godfather.

Anna-Maria’s very good friendship with the former empress of Persia, as Constantine and Anna-Maria hung out a lot in St. Moritz with the Shah and Farah, may once again bring Sahbanou to Greece. After all, Farah Dyba came and demanded tribute at Constantine’s funeral. Something similar will happen with the grand duchess, Maria Vladimirovna, of Russia, whose late last Greek king was the godfather of her only son, George Mikhailovich Romanov.

The biggest absence
Of course, the greatest absence for Theodora will be the absence of her father. And although it has been known that her older brother, Pavlos, will accompany her to the church, in the last few hours there is also a discussion about the role of her mother, Anna-Maria, beyond the planning of the wedding. In reference to her past statements in which, among other things, she had mentioned that she and Konstantinos were one. Based on this, there are many who argue that she could also accompany her daughter with Pavlos. On the other hand, when Constantine married Anna-Maria in 1964, the Queen Mother, Frederick, was the one who changed the rings and crowns at the wedding. So it is possible that something similar will happen now!
