Josh Hendrickson/Geek Review

What do you get with one of the best smartwatches in the country with a few small improvements? Well, one of the best smartwatches in the country. In short, it’s the Apple Watch Series 8. Great…because Series 7 watches are.

Honestly, it’s a tough time for tool reviewers (in an incredibly distinct sense). Don’t bother with the old complaint that all smartphones look the same. Over the past year, all of the updated devices have remained largely unchanged from the ones they replaced. Feels like an issue with Highlight It’s where we “find the difference”.

But I can’t say I blame Apple (or any other) entirely. The Apple Watch Series 7 is by all accounts a very good smartwatch. If you change anything drastically, something may break along the way. So, the Apple Watch Series 8 is safe to play with slight differences here and there. It might not be exciting for tech critics, but for the average person who likely won’t upgrade every year, the Apple Watch is one of the best (if not the best) smartwatches you can buy.

Design: still the same

Series 8 on the left, Series 7 on the rightJosh Hendrickson/Geek Review
  • Size: 41 mm (41 x 35 x 10.7 mm) or 45 mm (45 x 38 x 10.7 mm)
  • Weight (aluminum): 41mm + GPS (31.9g), 45mm + GPS (38.8g), 41mm + Cellular (32.2g), 45mm + Cellular (39.1g)
  • Weight (stainless steel): 41 mm + Cellular (42.3 g), 45 mm + Cellular (51.5 g).
  • Monitor: Always On Retina LTPO OLED display with up to 1000 nits brightness
  • building materials: aluminum or stainless steel

do you know that Desk The meme ends with “the same picture” as the punchline? Basically, you can use the Apple Watch Series 7 and Series 8 side by side. Same square screen with rounded corners (squirrel), same digital crown and same buttons to press.

If you look to the side, you’ll find the same cutouts, the same dimensions, and the same special watch strap connections. I have a Starlight Aluminin case and a sports ring. Starlite Aluminum is clearly another way of saying “different shades of gray”. Looks good. The sport loop adds color above all else and is perfect for everyday use. It might not match your formal attire, but you can always buy another ensemble.

I don’t want to rely too much on “If you watch one hour, you watch them all” here, but it’s very true in this case. If you liked the look of previous Apple Watches, you will love this watch, too. And if you don’t, you won’t.

Some new features you may not use

  • system on chip: S8 SiP Advanced Dual-Core 64-bit (مثل 2nd Gen SE و Apple Watch Ultra)
  • storage: 32 GB
  • Saying: L1 (single channel) GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, Beidou, perpetual altimeter, compass
  • light sensor: 3rd generation heart rate sensor, ECG heart rate sensor, blood oxygen sensor, wrist temperature sensor
  • Other sensors: High-gravity accelerometer (collision detection), high dynamic range gyroscope, always-on altimeter, ambient light sensor, microphone

So what’s new in the Apple Watch Series 8? Well, not much. And some of the new features may not help, one of the most important being the new temperature sensor built into the watch. Take your temperature on your wrist. But before you think, “Sweet, can you check if I have a fever?” Unfortunately I can not.

It’s like a background sensor that enhances other tracking like sleep and ovulation. As a man, the latter does not apply to me. And when it comes to sleep tracking, well, the battery life is still not enough to use this feature. When I turned it on, I didn’t do it for a day, so this is my favorite.

But with a full day and a half battery life, night is the best time to charge the watch. This means that it cannot be used to track sleep patterns. If necessary, a day and a half battery life means that if you forget to charge it, you still have enough battery life to charge it first thing in the morning. But it won’t take long enough to completely forget regarding charging each night.

Another new feature is car accident detection. Unfortunately I haven’t tested this. Apparently, just riding a roller coaster at my local theme park, Kings Island, the feature is turned off and calling 911, so in theory you might try it. R.

However, if you get into a car accident and you have an iPhone 14 or Apple Watch Series 8, the latest devices should be better at detecting this fact and calling for help automatically. Other devices can do this as well, but the latest version is claimed to be more accurate.

Beyond that, this is almost the same as the Series 7 watch. So all the pros and cons apply here, right down to the battery life.

Should you get an Apple Watch Series 8?

Josh Hendrickson/Geek Review

this is the problem. I don’t use the Apple Watch very often. I spend more time on my Android phone, so I tend to wear OS watches. When I come back, the Apple Watch is the reason I should consider sticking with the iPhone. The Wear OS experience so far is incomparable.

The fact that Apple is able to tightly integrate the experience between the iPhone and Apple Watch really shows that, and the overall experience is simply better than what Wear OS offers. The latest Apple Watch is the best the company has ever offered.

But should you buy it? Well, it depends. Do you already own one? If you don’t own an Apple Watch and have an iPhone, I can highly recommend an Apple Watch of some sort. Perhaps the latest version of the Apple Watch SE is the best option. That’s almost as low as the Series 8. The Ultra is the heyday of the latest Apple Watch, but it goes well beyond the average person’s needs. But if you want the best features that don’t require climbing, the Series 8 is the best Apple Watch you can buy.

On the other hand, if you already have an Apple Watch, the math is a bit more complicated. Have you got an Apple Watch from the Series 7 era, then you can skip it. Not enough to justify the extra cost. But if you have an older device, yes, you will appreciate the upgrade you got here. In fact, Apple still makes the best smartwatches in the country.
